Understanding Bonding
What is Composite Bonding
Composite bonding is a cosmetic dental treatment that can be used to quickly improve the appearance of your teeth.
Hundreds of patients throughout Hilton, Chelsea, and Kensington have been treated by our cosmetic dentist who is an expert in the field. Composite bonding is made up of a dental resin composite material that is colour-matched to your teeth so that it looks completely natural. The dental resin can be used to cover up cracked or chipped teeth, fill in unwanted gaps, and be used to disguise discoloured or badly stained teeth. If you have small or uneven teeth, composite bonding can be used to improve the shape and make your teeth look more even.
Composite bonding is a painless and non invasive procedure that usually takes about an hour to complete (per tooth). If you are having more than one tooth treated, you may need longer appointment times.
The Composite Resin
A high-quality, tooth-coloured material carefully selected to match your natural enamel for seamless, natural-looking results.
The Bonding Process
The resin is artistically sculpted directly onto the tooth, shaped with precision, and hardened using a special curing light to create a durable finish.
The Final Polish
Once shaped, the bonded tooth is smoothed and polished to enhance shine and ensure it blends beautifully with your surrounding teeth.

Got Questions?
Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to the most common questions about Composite Bonding.
Is composite bonding suitable for me?
Composite bonding is a versatile cosmetic dental treatment suitable for individuals looking to improve the aesthetics of their smile. It is an excellent option for correcting minor imperfections like chips, gaps, and discoloration. If you are seeking a non-invasive solution to enhance the appearance of your teeth and achieve a more harmonious smile, composite bonding may be the ideal choice for you.
How long does dental composite bonding last?
The longevity of dental composite bonding varies depending on factors such as oral hygiene practices, dietary habits, and the extent of wear and tear. With proper care and regular dental check-ups and visits to our dental hygienists, composite bonding can last between 5 to 10 years. It is essential to avoid habits like biting hard objects and to maintain good oral hygiene to ensure the longevity of your composite bonding.
Is the bonding procedure painful?
Composite bonding is typically a painless procedure that is minimally invasive and usually does not require anaesthesia, except in cases involving cavity filling. The process involves applying a tooth-coloured resin to the teeth, shaping it, and polishing it for a natural look. Most patients find composite bonding comfortable, with little to no pain experienced during or after the treatment.
Is composite bonding reversible?
Composite bonding is a reversible cosmetic procedure, as the bonding material can be removed and replaced if necessary. This flexibility allows for adjustments or refinements to be made to the appearance of the teeth in the future, providing a customizable and adaptable solution for enhancing your smile.
Does composite bonding stain?
While composite bonding is resistant to staining, it may gradually discolour over time due to factors like consuming staining substances such as coffee, tea, or tobacco. Regular dental cleanings and avoiding excessive consumption of these substances can help maintain the appearance of your composite bonding and keep your smile looking bright and healthy.
How long does a composite bonding procedure take?
The duration of a composite bonding procedure varies based on the treatment extent, typically taking about 30 minutes to an hour per tooth for a comprehensive enhancement.
Can composite bonding be used to close gaps between teeth?
Composite bonding offers a versatile and effective solution for closing small gaps between teeth, a condition known as diastema. During the composite bonding procedure, a tooth-colored resin material is skillfully applied to the teeth and sculpted to close the gaps, resulting in a more uniform and aesthetically pleasing smile.
The composite resin used in bonding is customizable to match the color of natural teeth, ensuring a seamless blend with the surrounding dental structure. By filling in gaps between teeth, composite bonding not only enhances the appearance of the smile but also improves dental symmetry and overall balance.
